If you haven’t had enough Pikachu on Pokemon Go or Pokemon The Sun and The Moon, you will find solace in the upcoming live-action movie, Detective Pikachu. Detective Pikachu has ties to the Detective Pikachu game that went live in Japan this year.
Known as Great Detective Pikachu outside Japan, the Pokemon franchise spin-off is the first ever to feature talking Pikachu. The intelligent Pikachu partners with Tim Goodman and together they embark on an involving mission to hunt down some Aipom.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Detective Pikachu movie would be the first in a planned franchise and has been under production by Warcraft studio Legendary that acquired the rights to make Pokemon movies back in July.
The company seems to be fast-tracking production. It has hired former Monsters vs. Aliens, Gulliver’s Travels and Goosebumps director, Rob Letterman to heat things up.
All the hype around Pokemon is thanks to Niantic’s success with its rather innovative Pokemon Go title. Rumor has it that Legendry battle it out with Warner Bros to get the movie rights back in April.
We do not have an official release date for the Detective Pikachu movie but it is definitely going to be a big boost to the Pokemon world, and franchise, since the movie will reach out to audiences that can’t interact with the wonderful critters we gamers have come to love so much.
